What is the total number of distinct hues of blue seen in nature? It is a question that you may ponder when observing the oceans surrounding the most exquisite drift hunters islands in Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific. In these places, the key is to abandon your mobile phone and really immerse yourself in the natural splendor that lies before you.

In our annual World's Best Awards poll, Travel + Leisure solicits feedback from readers on travel experiences worldwide, including their views on the most exceptional cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and other relevant factors. Readers evaluated islands based on their recreational activities and attractions, natural features and beaches, cuisine, hospitality, and general worth.

The majority of this year's beloved destinations include stunning beaches. One remarkable exception is Waiheke, New Zealand, which secured the third position due to its rough landscape, exceptional vineyards and restaurants, and convenient accessibility from the mainland (a mere 45-minute boat journey from Auckland).

Although the other places on the list need a greater level of travel commitment, the benefits justify the effort. Mo'orea (No. 2) in French Polynesia is often included on this list because to its renowned family-friendly culture, stunning beaches, and exceptional diving opportunities on the Garden of Roses coral reef. The neighboring island of Huahine (No. 5) is less well-known but as stunning, with a remarkable white-sand shoreline. Residing in an overwater bungalow at the isolated Royal Huahine (formerly known as the Te Tiare Beach Resort), you have the opportunity to engage in snorkeling activities from your porch. One reader referred to the island as "Fully embodying the ideals of a tropical paradise."

Regarding the location that holds the top position, it is comprised of 332 islands, making it a paradise that legitimately ranks among the top islands in the world this year. Continue reading to discover the recipient of the award.
